




Most of the woodcuts on this site are made by printing the black block, and
then painting watercolors washes over the prints, after the printing ink has
dried. Here on this page, however, I am using the more traditional technique where the
printmaker carves a separate block for each color.
Artists in both europe and Asia developed Multi-block printing techniques
independently of one another, but with some differences in technique. For
example, in Europe, the pigments were oil-based, while in Asia, the pigments
were water-based.
